Gusts may reach 85 km/h. IMWM warnings in 15 voivodeships

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management warns against strong winds, which may gust up to 85 km/h. Dangerous conditions exist across most of the country today, with yellow alerts in effect.

Forecasters from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued first warnings on a three-level, increasing scale.

IMWM first degree warnings – strong wind

Yellow alerts apply in the following voivodeships:

  • West Pomeranian Voivodeshipin Sławno County (where warnings will be valid until 12 noon on Thursday);
  • Pomeranianin the following poviats: Słupsk, Słupsk, Lębork, Wejherowo, Puck (where warnings will be valid until 12 noon on Thursday), Kartuzy, Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia, Gdańsk (where warnings will be valid until 10 a.m. on Thursday);
  • Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (where warnings in northern counties will be valid until 2 p.m. on Thursday, in eastern counties until 12 p.m. and in other regions until 8 a.m.);
  • Podlasie (where warnings will be valid until 12 noon on Thursday);
  • Masovian Voivodeshipexcept in southern counties (where warnings will be valid until 11 a.m. on Thursday);
  • Świętokrzyskiein the Kielce poviat (where warnings will be valid until 9 a.m. on Thursday);
  • Podkarpackiein the following counties: Bieszczady, Lesko, Sanok, Krosno, KrosnoJasielski (where warnings will be valid until 3 p.m. on Thursday);
  • Lesser Polandin the following counties: Gorlice, Nowy Sącz, Nowy SączLimanowski, Myślenice, Wadowicki, Oświęcim, Sucha, Nowy Targ, Tatra (where the warnings will be valid until 3 p.m. on Thursday);
  • Silesianin the following counties: Żywiec, Cieszyn, Bielsko, Bielsko-Biała (where warnings will be valid until 3 p.m. on Thursday);
  • Opole province (where in southern counties the warnings will be valid until 10 a.m. on Thursday, and in other regions until 9 a.m.);
  • Łódźin central and northern counties (where warnings will be valid until 9 a.m. on Thursday);
  • Lower Silesia (where warnings in southern counties will be valid until 12 p.m. on Thursday, and in the remaining counties until 9 a.m.);
  • Lubuskie (where warnings will be valid until 8 a.m. on Thursday);
  • Greater Poland (where warnings in southern counties will be valid until 9 a.m. on Thursday, and in the remaining counties until 8 a.m.);
  • Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship (where warnings will be valid until 8 a.m. on Thursday).

In the mentioned regions, strong winds with an average speed of up to 50 km/h, gusts up to 85 km/h, from the south-west and west are forecast.

What are IMWM first degree warnings?

Conditions are expected to favor the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena that may cause material losses and pose a threat to health and life. Conducting business in conditions of exposure to these factors is difficult and dangerous. Expect difficulties resulting from carrying out activities in the hazardous area, including delays caused by road traffic, disruptions to outdoor events or the possibility of their cancellation. Caution is recommended, the need to follow messages and developments in the weather situation.
