He came to the victim from behind and for no reason he dealt with a knife. A 59-year-old employee of the Kalisz PKS station died. He was an accidental victim. The killer was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The tragedy took place on January 15, 2017 at the PKS station in Kalisz. 27-year-old Adrian Sz. He left the house in the morning where he lived with his mother. On the street he threw the wallet and the keys from the apartment, left only money and bought a knife. He went to the station.

The 59-year-old employee of the station, the snow, came from behind, without warning he dealt with a knife with a knife on his neck and back. The wounded man died after transporting to the hospital. Adriana Sz. He was detained at the crime scene. He did not resist and did not try to run away. The officers told him that he had told him the voices he had heard.

“He complained to hear voices that he was afraid”

The trial started in the District Court in Kalisz in 2018. The accused then said that the event did not remember and regrets what had happened. According to the mother of the accused, her son killed because she is sick. – He complained that he was hearing the voices he was afraid of. He disappeared from home for a few hours and did not remember what he was doing at that time. He began to behave abnormally. He said he would study Hebrew, light candles at home – she testified in court. For the purposes of the trial, he was subject to psychiatric examinations. The experts stated that the sanity of the accused at the time of the incident was not limited or abolished. They added that the accused has a schizoid personality, but he is not sick with schizophrenia. During the investigation and the court cord, the motive of Adrian Sz. The prosecutor demanded life imprisonment, the defender – redemption due to the insanity of his client.

It was not a sick man's actions

The first sentence was passed in 2018. The judge imposed the accused with a sentence of 25 years in prison. During the justification of the judgment, he said that the motive of the murder was not a disease. He stated that the act of the accused was of criminal logic, not a sick man. A defender of the convict and the prosecutor appealed against the judgment. According to the prosecutor, the accused acted with motivation indicating special condemnation. In turn, the defender said there were grounds to think that he was insane. The Court of Appeal in Łódź recognized the arguments of both parties and in the same year the case returned to Kalisz. This time, he was accused of examined by two independent teams of expert doctors of various specialties – psychiatrists, psychologists and neurologists. During the resumed trial, the judge died, so it was necessary to appoint another chairman of the composition and start the trial again.

The second sentence before the Kalisz District Court was passed in 2022. The prosecutor requested imprisonment, a change in the qualification of the act and the assumption that the accused acted with motivation indicating special condemnation. The defender of the accused requested the smallest sentence, or eight years in prison.

The court imposed 15 years in prisonso 10 years lower than in the first sentence. According to the Court, the circumstances related to the existence of disorders in the accused in combination with the existing non -punctuality and good reputation at the place of residence had to affect the lower final sentence.

The prosecutor's office is considering cassation

The prosecutor, who sent another appeal to the Łódź court, disagreed with the verdict. In April 2025, the Court of Appeal in Łódź changed the judgment of the District Court in Kalisz and sentenced the accused to a sentence of 25 years in prison. – The prosecutor requested that the judgment be justified to consider the cassation appeal regarding the sentence of life imprisonment – said prosecutor Maciej Meler. According to the prosecutor, circumstances such as the election of a lonely attack on the back of the elderly, reversed that the man's action was thought out, planned and deliberately committed, which is why he deserves the most severe sentence.
