More and more Germans visit Austria to return boxes and bottles covered by a bail fee. In the case of beer boxes, the return offered in Austrian stores is twice as high as in Germany. According to entrepreneurs, wholesale turns of bottles should be limited.
Yet Germany They came to Austria Mainly to buy cheaper fuel. Now they have another reason to visit their neighbors – a deposit for feedback.
Recently, the Austrian brewing industry has raised the amount of refund for glass packaging from nine to twenty eurocents, while in Germany this amount is still eight cents. A separate category are transporters (so -called boxes), for which the deposit in Austria is three euros and is twice as high as in Germany.
Germany takes advantage of the fact that it is not possible to clearly determine whether the bottle was put into purchase on the spot or brought from abroad. The problem is particularly about breweries, which sell their drinks on the territory of both countries.
Entrepreneurs want changes
– In the first days after the change in the deposit height, the tendency was catastrophic – he says in an interview with ORF Christian Thiel from the Schoenramer brewery in Petting. The plant is located 13 kilometers from the border. – It happened that someone drove under a small drink store with a trailer loaded fifty boxes – says Thiel.
Florian Berger, spokesman for the Austrian Brewery Association, believes that the introduction of provisions that would allow sellers to consider on Refusing to take “wholesale” bottles of or boxes, and accepting only the number corresponding to consumption within the household.
In addition, traders should have the right to refuse to accept packaging after products that they do not have in their offer.
Every year, about six percent of beer bottles in circulation go to garbage, while each bottle can be used up to 40 times.
