He went to work at dawn by national road through the forest. He saw this deer, slowed down, passed through his belt. The driver from the opposite direction did not notice her and hit at high speed. – I managed to think that it was impossible to hit me – says Jan Jakimowicz. After a split second he lost consciousness. For 12 minutes he stood on the waist, with a broken windshield. The perpetrator of the collision drove away, other cars bypassed him, nobody called for help.

Thursday, 5.36 (on the recording from the video recorder is set winter time, an hour backwards), national road number 42. Jan Jakimowicz, a waiter master, went to work, to school classes. From Ligota Dolna near Kluczbork towards Wrocław.

A fragment of the road leads through the forest. – I always go there slower, because deer go on the road, moreover, there are warning signs – says Jakimowicz. And she left. He saw her from afar. Released. She crossed his belt. He already knew that he would not hit her.

– But the driver from the opposite direction hit this deer with impetus. I saw him fly. These were fractions of a second. I managed to think: it is impossible that he would hit me. And he lost consciousness.

The deer's head hit the driver's head

The frontal collision could have occurred, Jan Jakimowicz's car could go to the opposite belt, enter a ditch, hit a tree, but thanks to good equipment it stopped automatically on his lane, and Ecall – a system for detecting a road incident – sent the application together with the location to the emergency number 112.

Firefighters from Namysłów first appeared on the spot. – When they opened the door of the car that collided with Sarna, the driver came to his senses – says aspirant Tomasz Wieżny, spokesman for the State Fire Service in Namysłów.

Jakimowicz talks about a miracle. Stronging in my car, the deer lost her head. The torso flew somewhere, and the head fell through the windshield into my car, hit my head and fell under the passenger seat. If I got the torso, I don't know if I would survive – he says.

He had glass in his mouth, the particles stuck in his face, blood on his hands. Fortunately, it was only deer blood for him. After examining in an ambulance, it turned out that nothing serious happened to me. “I didn't even have a scratch or bruise,” he says.

The driver ran away and nobody stopped

Aspirant Tomasz Przysiężny told us that PSP in Namysłów got a notification only from Ecall. No witness of the event called them.

– Help reached me 12 minutes after the event – says Jan Jakimowicz. – This is a busy road, especially at this time, people go to work. A car with a broken glass stood on the road, and in the middle I, an unconscious driver and no one stopped during these 12 minutes, he did not call for help – says the waiter master, who trains with the label and always emphasizes how important empathy is.

– The driver who hit the roe deer escaped – he adds. – I will have to pay for repairing the car from my insurance. If I didn't have this recording and did not show it to the police officers, I would pay a ticket.

Policemen, as he says, did not take a video from him to try to read the registration of the collision spatula and chasing it. They told him to send him to the duty officer.

What about the perpetrator of the event?

– Policemen are not able to rip the recording from the car video recorder at the place – explains Agnieszka Żyłka, a spokeswoman for the police in Opole.

As he says, the procedure looks in such a way that the trial material collected on the spot is transferred to the investigation department, which will carry out subsequent activities. – It continues. But let the victim not worry, he will be summoned to interrogation and to provide evidence in the form of a recording. The most important thing is to keep this recording – says the policewoman.

He assures that police officers will also secure recordings from other cameras on the driver's route to reach his registration, and finally to him.

– The perpetrator of a road incident should stop. Now it may be responsible not only for causing a collision, but for running away from the scene. He should check if someone has been injured – says Żyłka.

He adds that the detention and lead of the perpetrator may take several weeks. The victim will then be able to reimburse the full costs of car repair and compensation.
