When we talk about transplantation, we usually imagine the operation itself – this extraordinary moment when the one -played one person gives a chance to live to someone else. However, before surgery occurs, it must still happen. You need to make hundreds of phone calls and make dozens of difficult decisions.
Mrs. Anna Milecka associates donors with waiting. Later, he manages the action that often involves over 100 people – including transporting with ambulance and helicopters. When she started, she was one of the first.
– I remember such a situation that I had two coordinations in parallel. Then there were four kidneys transplanted in one day. The next day I came to the room, where all the patients were, all four were lying, and with every patient there was a sack in the urine and each sack was full. Such a banality may be, but I have this view so far – the manager recalls Regional Center for Coordination of Transplantation of the University Clinical Center in Gdańsk.

Each transplant starts with them
Coordinators remain in the shade, but each transplant begins with them. Talks with donor families are the most difficult. Such a gift is an expression of the greatest human solidarity for many patients. Last rescue.
– It is often that they are after transplantation, you can only see how you will rise clothes, blouse and see that they have a scar. This transformation in many of these patients is very, very large. There is nothing to prevent these patients to live, go on vacation, enjoy this life – says dr hab. Piotr Domagała, a surgeon from the University Clinical Center in Gdańsk.
– This is gratitude. This hope will be good, it will be great – admits Mr. Andrzej Grzmociński, a patient after liver transplantation.
There are 340 hospital coordinators in the country. It's more a mission than work. – I practically moved it home. Later I learned that wherever I was agreed, I always told everyone: listen, today I have a cell phone. Also like what, thank you, goodbye – says Mrs. Anna.
Mrs. Anna saved hundreds of lives. – This is interesting in this work. Also stressful on the one hand, but I don't like such a monotony, so I think it fits my character – he confesses.
