Manufacturers argue that new models, equipped with advanced AI systems, can do much more. Here's the list thingswhich are influenced by artificial intelligence.
Apartment mapping – a step in the right direction
Modern LiDAR sensors combined with AI allow robots to create more accurate ones maps rooms. This is real progress – devices plan better routes and get lost less often. However, they still have problems with dark surfaces or shiny floors, which can fool even the best sensors.
Better recognition of obstacles – theory versus practice
AI systems can theoretically recognize objects ranging from cables to toys. In practice, effectiveness varies – thin cables or bright objects on a light floor are still a challenge. Although progress is visible, it is worth removing the most important obstacles from the floor before cleaning.
Surface adaptation works, but with limitations
Automatic recognition of floor type and adjustment of suction power is a useful feature. However, you must remember that the robot may still have problems with some carpets, especially those with long bristles. Sometimes manually setting the operating mode gives better results than automatic operation.
Dirt detection – marketing or breakthrough?
Producers boast systems for detecting the degree of dirt, but in practice their effectiveness is questionable. The robot sometimes does not distinguish between a permanent stain and fresh dirt, which means it may waste time unnecessarily cleaning indelible traces.
Learning habits
Analyzing our cleaning preferences sounds great in theory. In practice, AI systems can sometimes misinterpret one-off situations as ongoing habits. Sometimes it's easier to just set a fixed schedule rather than rely on “intelligent” suggestions.
Automatic maintenance
The most advanced models they take care of their own maintenance. Docking stations that automatically empty the tank and clean the mops are a big help. However, it should be remembered that they take up more space and may require regular replacement of bags or filters, which involves additional operating costs.
Voice control and smart home
Modern robots can be integrated with voice assistants and smart home systems. AI allows for more natural commands – instead of giving strict commands, we can simply ask them to clean a specific room.
Artificial intelligence in cleaning robots, it's a step in the right direction, but does it deserve to be paid extra now? The answer will be individual for everyone. Better room mapping, obstacle recognition and automatic maintenance actually make everyday cleaning easier. However, let us remember that AI still does not cope perfectly with many challenges. Thin cables, shiny floors and long-pile carpets can still cause problems even for the most expensive models. Features don't always work as cleverly as we might expect.
