Cleaning TV screens is an activity that seems trivial at first glance. However, inappropriate methods may damage the delicate screen surface and negatively affect image quality. Find out how to properly care for your TV screen and what mistakes you should avoid.
When cleaning the house, we usually wipe the TV screen at the same time. In many cases, we do it with the same cloth and detergent for furniture or windows. Modern equipment has very sensitive surfaces. They can be easily damaged by using an inappropriate agent or even by pressing a little harder. So how can you clean your screens safely?
Preparation for cleaning
Before you start cleaning, remember a few basic rules:
- Turn off and unplug the TV. This will help you avoid electric shock and make it easier to see dirt on the screen when it is off.
- Let the screen cool down. A warm screen may be more susceptible to damage.
- Collect the right accessories. Avoid random materials – use a microfiber cloth or a soft cotton cloth.
What cleaning products should I use?
For cleaning TV screens it is best to use dedicated preparations. IN stores Foams, sprays and wet wipes are available. They have an antistatic effect, which slows down the accumulation of dust. You can also use distilled water, and in the case of greasy stains – a solution of distilled water with a small amount of vinegar. Remember to:
- Never spray the screen directly. Apply the preparation to a cloth and then gently wipe the screen.
- Avoid preparations based on alcohol, ammonia or acetone. They may permanently damage the protective coating of the screen.
Correct cleaning technique
Gentleness is the key. Here are the steps you should follow:
- Remove dust. Use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe off superficial dirt. The movements should be light and circular.
- Fight stubborn stains. Moisten the cloth with distilled water or a dedicated preparation. Never use too much liquid – moisture may enter the device.
- Don't forget about the frame and ventilation holes. Dust also settles on the TV housing and in the ventilation slots. You can use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush or compressed air to clean them.
What to avoid?
Inappropriate cleaning products and techniques can do more harm than good. The most common errors are:
- Using glass cleaners. The alcohol contained in them destroys the coating of LCD, LED, QLED and OLED screens.
- Cleaning screens with a wet cloth. Moisture can penetrate the electronics and damage the device.
- Use paper towels, sponges and tissues. They may scratch the delicate surface of the screen.
- Pressing hard on the screen. It may lead to permanent damage to the matrix.
