Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban summarized the past year in the sphere of international relations in the “Mayar Nemzet” daily. “Our friend is Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, our honest partner is Russian President Vladimir Putin, and our good friend is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,” said the head of the Hungarian government.
The head of the Hungarian government believes that his country occupies an important position on the geopolitical map of Europe and the world. “The goal of the foreign policy of a sane country is to gather friends. There should be as many countries in the world as possible interested in the success of the Hungarians,” said Orban, who also referred to the victory in the American presidential elections Donald Trumpwhich, according to the Prime Minister, he likes very much Hungary.
In the newspaper, Orban argues that Budapest can also boast of good relations with other world leaders: “The Chinese leader (Xi Jinping – ed.) visited two European Union countries, France and us. Our friend is the president of Turkey, our honest partner is the president Russia, and our good friend is the Prime Minister of Israel. According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, it is crucial to manage these relations in such a way that they bring the greatest possible benefits to Budapest.
“We have a plan”
In turn, with Donald Trump's victory Viktor Orbán hopes for a change in the balance of power in the European Union. “Since 1990, after the fall of communism, a new type of political struggle has been taking place in the Western world. Liberals are building an international world order and a progressive world order, while patriots opposing them insist on a world order based on nations,” explained the head of the Hungarian government . At the same time, he added that thanks to Trump's victory, European patriots received a chance to change their fate. However, to make this possible, he believes it is necessary to unite the forces of national parties from across the Community. “We have a plan to establish cooperation with European conservatives and we want to make it clear to the members of the European People's Party that the true law and tradition of the Christian Democrats are on the side of the patriots, not on theirs,” Orban announced.
He also explained what his goals are within the European Union. “First, we will reorganize the map of European parties, and then we want to take over the management of the European Commission through a majority in the European Parliament. These are our ambitions,” he added.
Referring to the future, Viktor Orban expressed his belief that the coming year will be good for Hungary and the world, especially since – in his opinion – the end of conflict in Ukraine. “The war will end in 2025. Either with peace negotiations or with the destruction of one of the warring sides,” Orban said.
