– Budapest will do everything to Serbia it became as soon as possible member European Union – the Hungarian president announced on Monday in Belgrade Tamas Sulyok.
The leader paid a two-day visit to Belgrade on Monday. During the course he met, among others: with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vuczic.
The heads of both countries talked about the enlargement of the European Union and Belgrade's accession path. – Without European integration, it is impossible to achieve long-term stability in the Balkans, and this is how we do it we want to contribute to it – emphasized the Hungarian president.

Sulyok's trip to Serbia was his third official visit since taking up office in March this year. Earlier he went to the Vatican and Vienna. The Hungarian leader said that “it is high time for the EU finally fulfilled its promise to the Western Balkans“.
President Vucic, in turn, noted that “Serbia currently has no closer and more important ally in Europe than Hungary.” – As long as I am involved in politics, I will try not to spoil good relations between the two nations, said the Serbian president.
Serbia is trying to join the EU. Action is ongoing
The visit of the Hungarian head of state was the third meeting in Belgrade in less than a week, during which the Serbia's accession to the EU. Last week he visited the Serbian capital Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk and chairwoman European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
Hungary is recognized as main supporter of Serbia's inclusion in the EUwhich was what Oliver Varhelyi sought during the term of office of Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, which began in 2019. Serbia applied for EU membership in December 2009; in March 2012 it obtained the status of a candidate country. Accession negotiations started in January 2014 and so far 22 of 35 negotiation chapters have been opened.
