256 years – this is how much of the boat would take the replacement of Cinderella only in the premises belonging to the city if it acted at the current pace. The city is one of the “marauders” on the list prepared by the Smoglab Foundation.

The organization in the new report looked at the problem of “Cinderella” belonging to cities. Extra -class solid fuel boilers are one of the main sources of smog in heating. Burning wood in them and rod It emits very large amounts of substances dangerous to health. Such stoves are a heat source only for a small part of households, but – especially in cities – contribute to air poison.

Most Cinderella is in private homes and apartmentshowever, a substantial part is in the premises of urban resources. And cities should set an example, meanwhile some have poor achievements in the field of mentioning their own boilers – emphasized during the meeting for the media Maciej Fijak from Smoglab.

Łódź and others cannot cope with Cinderella

On the Smoglab list, the first of the “marauders” is Łódź, which has as many as 12,816 Cinderella in resources belonging to the city. There are as many as 42,000 all non -class stoves in Łódź, which is one of the worst results among large cities. More, because 43,000, is in Wrocław, but only less than three thousand are located in urban premises, and the town hall has a plan to mention them by the end of 2027. Wałbrzych has as many as five thousand Urban Cinderella, but in recent years an average of 1,100 furnaces have been mentioned a year.

In the case of Łódź, there are no such plans, and the current pace of exchange – an average of 50 urban Cinderella a year – would allow everyone to get rid of everyone in … 256 years, i.e. the 1980s. The problem with urban Cinderella also have, among others Chorzów (10,750), Bydgoszcz, Zabrze and Szczecin (each after about five thousand) and Gdańsk (about four thousand). A voivodship anti -smog resolution is already in force in Bydgoszcz, so five thousand. Municipal Cinderella is illegal there, so, as noted at the SMOGLab conference, the city guard should issue mandates to the city authorities.

Fijak pointed out that the Łódź itself introduced the anti -smog resolution, according to which until January 1, 2026, it should be mentioned stoves and fireplaces that do not meet the requirements of the third, fourth or fifth grade. And although Fijak “wishes good luck”, he does not believe that the city would be able to get rid of almost 13,000 by the end of the year. Such heating devices in your own housing resources. At a press conference, it was noted that for this year Łódź allocated only 650 thousand. PLN for replacement of heat sources in urban housing resources, while six million PLN per year It spends on a city newspaper.

We asked the spokesman for the President of Łódź Hanna Zdanowska about what city has a plan to exchange Cinderella in her own resources and we asked to refer to the report. In the response sent by the press branch of the town hall, the data of SMOGLab did not take into account the exchange of furnaces during revitalization, and that the management of urban premises – on whose data is based on the report – did not provide the exchange of heat sources under the municipal furnace replacement program. However, according to the town hall, the latter is 171 heat sources in four years, so only a fraction of almost 13,000. The office promised that he would provide more detailed data on Monday.

As the mayor set an example

In the second gear there are leaders – among both large and smaller cities. Warsaw It already has only 88 cinderella in urban resources (but private ones, of which are over 32,000) remain a problem. IN Krakow It is 80 non -class city furnaces (and a little over six thousand in total). Skawina and Tychy completely eliminated the most kicking boilers from their resources.

The data show that the fight against Cinderella brings specific results. Cracow As the first city in Poland, he adopted an anti -smog resolution. Since 2019, 30,000 have been liquidated. Cinderella. And the city ceased to be the “capital of smog”. The number of smog days dropped from 132 in 2012 to 31 in 2023. 2023 was also the first in which the average annual values did not exceed the norm at measuring stations.

The smog “bagel”, i.e. the towns located around Krakow, remains a big problem. But already lying near the capital of Lesser Poland, Skawina is mentioned by Smoglab as an extremely positive example. In 2011, air quality standards were exceeded for 160 days. By 2023, this number dropped to 16 days. The anti -smog resolution was adopted, all of the Cinderella in the city's resource, the residents are helped by the ecodoraders, and they can also use the municipal “shop with subsidies and technical assistance”.

An example was given by the mayor of Skawina Norbert Rzepisko, who himself modernized, and also set up a “Cinderella Monument” on the market – an old, worn furnace. The one that residents should get rid of. “Where the stewards attach, you can see a definite improvement,” said Fijak.

In Rybnik – a city with mining traditions – the number of smog days has dropped from 134 to 23. Smoglab praises the implementation of the plan reported until 2026 and thermomodernization of administrative buildings.

Clean air for municipalities?

According to SMOGLab, municipal cinderella activities are particularly important, because they not only eliminate the direct cause of smog, but also set an example to residents. They admit, however, that local governments need more support.

The authors of the report propose, among others Creating a government program that would be the equivalent of clean air, but for urban premises. It is also important to clearly inform about how many non -class stoves are still in urban resources, as well as control of compliance with regulations (including anti -smog resolutions). Since the situation in which the City Guard imposes a ticket for the president of the city for illegal urban Cinders, it is not something that is happening in practice, the authors of the report call for increased controls by the voivodship environmental protection inspectorates.
