IMWM warning. The Baltic Sea is highly filled. There is a risk of backflow

IMWM warning: “Due to the forecasted meteorological situation and high filling of the Baltic Sea on the coast, water levels are expected to increase above warning levels and locally above alarm levels,” it warns IMWM. According to recent measurements the filling of the Baltic Sea is 544 cm.

Dangerous phenomenon in the Baltic Sea: This has already happened on the coast occurrence of a dangerous phenomenon such as backflowi.e. the wind forcing water from the Baltic Sea into the land. “Difficult situation in Łeba!! Coast in red: Due to the situation in the Baltic Sea, IMWM issued: Level III warning. Practically the entire Polish Baltic coast is redindicating the highest alert level. “The alarm level was exceeded at: 3 hydrological stations in the Oder basin, by a maximum of 10 cm at the GRYFINO station on the Oder, 3 stations in the Przymorze basin, by a maximum of 12 cm at the GDAŃSK – SOBIESZEWO station on the Martwa Wisła, 10 marine stations, by a maximum of 35 cm in ŚWINOUJŚCIE ” – says IMWM on social media. In the estuary sections of the Vistula and Nogat and over the Vistula Lagoon, a level 2 warning is in force against the rivers backflowing and exceeding the alarm levels.

Snowfall and strong winds: We are still dealing with this over Poland heavy snowfalland it also occurs in the north strong wind. IMWM reports that the hydrological warning will be valid until 11 p.m. on Sunday, January 12.

Warning area: The warning covers the “Western Coast and internal maritime waters of the Republic of Poland – the South Baltic Sea, the Eastern Coast and internal maritime waters of the Republic of Poland – the South-Eastern Baltic Sea, the Świna Strait, the Coast from Martwa Wisła to the Vistula, Przysea from the Vistula to the state border on the Vistula Spit (Pomeranian Voivodeship, West Pomeranian Voivodeship),” we read in the announcement.
