Totmes II was a ruler from the 18th dynasty, prevailing in ancient Egypt in the first half of the 15th century BC, according to the customs among the pharaohs, he married his half -sister Hatshepsut, who after his death replaced him on the throne.

“The tomb was discovered by a group of British and Egyptian researchers. Everything seems to indicate that it was emptied in ancient times, which is why no such rich decor was found there as in the tomb of Tutankhamon” – he was reported in a communiqué published on Tuesday. It was noted, however, that this is still one of the most important archaeological discoveries in recent years – the last time the Pharaoh's tomb was found in 1922, when the burial place of Tutankhamon was found. The entrance to the tomb was discovered in 2022, but scientists previously thought that one of the royal wives was buried there.

The tomb was considered a resting place for Totmes II after discovering fragments of alabaster pitchers describing Pharaoh as “the deceased ruler”. Fragments of vessels with the name Hatshepsut were also found.

“This discovery does not tell us much about Pharaoh's life, but shows that he was buried by Hatshepsut, and not by his son, who was then a baby – later Pharaoh Totmes III,” said the CNN Piers Litherland station from the team that made the discovery. The tomb is in poor condition, probably shortly after Pharaoh's burial, it was flooded with water, maybe then its content was moved. However, archaeologists were able to recover, among others Fragments of plasters and inscriptions painted on them. The Totmes II mummy was discovered at the end of the 19th century in another archaeological site in Dejr El-Bahri.
