94 percent of newly registered cars in August were electric cars, according to the latest report by OFV, an organization researching the automotive market in Norway.

Of the 11,114 new cars, 10,840 are fully electric, breaking the record from January this year, when combustion cars made up only 8% of vehicles registered for the first time.

At the same time, for the first time in history, the total number of passenger “electric” cars on Norwegian roads is greater than the number of such cars with petrol engines.

– No country in the world comes close to the level of electric car popularity we are currently experiencing in Norway. If this trend continues, we will soon reach our goal. We want all newly sold cars to be zero emission in 2025, says Solberg Thorsen, director of OFV.

According to Solberg Thorsen, Norwegian drivers choose electric cars for economic reasons. He emphasizes the importance of incentives introduced by the authorities, in particular lower tolls for using roads and entering large cities and lower parking rates.

The most popular cars among buyers in August 2024 in Norway were the Tesla Y, Volvo EX30, Skoda Enyaq, Volkswagen ID.4 and Toyota bZ4X. These five models accounted for half of all new car sales during this period.
