In the Wieczorek case, “one basic mistake was made”

Dariusz Wieczorek informed the Sejm on Thursday that he resigned from the position of Minister of Science and Higher Education. He assured that he would continue to support the development of science, using his experience in the ministry.

He spoke about this matter on the same day Donald Tuskwho resides in Brussels. Journalists asked the Prime Minister how he reacted to this resignation and whether there would be further resignations of deputy ministers of science. – I have no intention of humiliating anyone and we agreed that the matter would be resolved by Friday, and it has been resolved. For me this is enough, said the head of government.

Politicians in the Sejm also commented on Wieczorek's decision.

– I hope that Minister Wieczorek will also draw conclusions from what happened and the next minister will move the Ministry of Science in this direction, i.e. matters important for science, not personnel matters – commented Magdalena Sroka, MP from PSL-Trzecia Droga.

The press spokesman also commented on Wieczorek's resignation PSL Miłosz Motyka: – I think that the pressure from MPs from the Left itself was so great that this decision could not have been different. We have heard in recent days and weeks that this is indeed a heavy burden, he noted.

– I think that this election campaign, which was gaining momentum, in which the minister's name was much more widely promoted than, for example, the name of Mrs. Magdalena Biejat, shows that it was actually an image problem – said Motyka.

He also added that he hoped that “the issue of the whistleblower will be clarified.” – However, this is a terrible signal for citizens that the government minister is not in their defense, but against them – he concluded.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and MP of the Left, Andrzej Szejna, when asked about his assessment of Wieczorek's decision, replied: – This is only and exclusively the decision of Minister Wieczorek.

According to Szejna, during Minister Wieczorek's term of office, “one basic mistake was made, a communication error.” – The minister did not communicate what he had achieved – he explained. When asked by a TVN24 reporter whether Wieczorek was a victim of internal games in his party, the politician denied it. – This is his personal decision, no one on the Left influenced this decision and I respect this decision – he said. He also said that Wieczorek is “a talented politician.”

On the other hand PiS MP Marek Suskicommenting on Wieczorek's dismissal, said: – Only after a year (from the swearing in of the government, the first minister resigns – editor).

In response to the statement that it is a good standard when a minister leaves after allegations are made against him, the MP replied that “in the case of this coalition, most of the ministers should leave.” – There are accusations against all of them, (so – editor), what he does, for example (Adam) Bodnarbreaking the law – he said.

– So I think they have ministers with heavier sins on their conscience than Minister Wieczorek – said the PiS MP.

MP Stefan Krajewski from PSL also commented on Wieczorek's resignation. – There are situations that should absolutely be explained and some should not have happened at all, but it is difficult to judge my colleagues from the government – he noted.

When asked what outraged him most about this matter, the MP pointed to “issues that concern, for example, employment.” – We have heard a lot, especially from Left politicians, about the cronyism in PSL. This label is attached to us forever and it is alive forever, said the politician.

– However, it turns out that every party that governs wants to have influence on the staff, wants to have influence on having trusted people, but everything must be done in accordance with the law and within the limits of the law – he emphasized.
