In Friday's presidential elections in Iran, no candidate obtained an absolute majority of votes. The second round will take place on July 5, the Iranian Interior Ministry announced on Saturday.
Next Friday, in the second round electionsthe reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian and the conservative Sayed Jalili will face off.
Election commission spokesman Mohsen Eslami announced that of the 24.5 million votes cast in the first round, Pezeshkian won 10.4 million and Jalili 9.4 million. The speaker of the unicameral parliament, Mohammed Bagher Khalibaf, won 3.3 million votes, and Shiite cleric Mostafa Pourmohammadi won more than 206,000.
