Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that his country will “make every effort” to legalize same-sex partnerships. If his predictions come true, Kosovo will be the first Muslim-majority country to do so.

– Kosovo will make every effort to soon become the second country in the Western Balkans, after Montenegro, to guarantee its citizens the right to same-sex partnerships. We will work hard to achieve this in the near future, Kurti said, adding that a change in Kosovar law could happen as early as May.

In an interview with the German editorial office of the Euractiv portal, the Prime Minister of Kosovo noted that, unlike the situation in 2022, he now has the support of the majority of deputies of his Self-Determination (Vetevendosje) party on this issue.

At the same time, he admitted that for the changes to be adopted by the 120-member parliament, he would have to convince 11 more deputies. Kurti emphasized that the government had already supported the decision to legalize civil partnerships. If Kurti's announcements come true, Kosovo will be the first country inhabited mostly by Muslims to legalize same-sex relationships, comments the Bosnian portal Klix.
