Italy. Houses put up for sale for one euro

The offer of the authorities of Penne in the province of Pescar in Italian Abruzzo regarding the sale of houses for one euro is very popular. This is part of the action related to counteracting the emptying of the historic center. Over 1,700 applications from around the world came in a few days.

An avalanche of applications is the effect of sound system of this offer by American television and other media.

Houses for one euro are exhibited by the authorities of many Italian towns that fight their depopulation and want the devastating, empty buildings to be renovated. However, in Penne – a town of about eleven thousand inhabitants, with a view of the Gran Sasso massif – unlike many other similar offers, no deposit is required. However, you need to renovate the house within three years of its purchase.

The first three properties were allocated to sale in 2022.

Interest in houses was constantly growing. A special house office for 1 euros was created at the Commune Office – the mayor of Gilberto Petrucci informed the agency.

Lots of applications, among those interested in Poles

Now over 1,700 applications have been arrived within a few days. As the mayor added, the Dutch, Poles and English came to Penne to see the houses for sale.

Ilario Lacchetta, dealing with the implementation of the project, said that foreigners explain the interest in these pages “the beauty of the place and the quality of life”.
