A party with BDSM elements, which was planned to be organized in a medieval castle in northern Italy, resulted in the resignation of the authorities of Varano de' Melegari. A receivership was introduced there, the local press reported. The controversial event did not take place, but this did not end the political crisis that occurred in connection with this case.
In Varano de' Melegari, located on a hill near Parma, seven out of ten councilors resigned, which led to the expiry of the term of office of the local government, headed by a center-right mayor. New elections must be held there.
The announcement of the event caused a storm
The political conflict broke out over plans to organize a private BDSM-themed event in the local castle. This acronym comes from the words: “bondage” and “discipline”, “dominance” and “submission”. It was to be held on the initiative of one of the associations.
“The announcement of the event sparked a polemic, during which it was recalled that controversial scenes and behavior had occurred during the previous event in the town,” noted “La Gazzetta di Parma.”

As a sign of protest against the intention to organize another edition of this event, most councilors resigned, which was criticized by the current mayor, Giusepe Restiani. He accused these local politicians of using this excuse to end his term.
