Jacek Rybicki is dead. Deputy chairman of Solidarity in the 90s, former MP was 65 years old

Jacek Rybicki – deputy chairman of the NSZZ “Solidarity” trade union in the 1990s and member of the Sejm of the 3rd term – died at the age of 65.

The information about the death of the trade unionist and MP was reported by “Tygodnik Solidarność”. Jacek Rybicki had been out of politics recently, although he occasionally appeared at events organized by Solidarity.

In the years 1980–1981 he was a member of the Independent Students' Association, and then active in the underground Solidarity movement.

From March 1993 to June 1998 he was the chairman of the Gdańsk Region Board of NSZZ “Solidarność”. In the 1990s he also served as vice-chairman of the National Commission.

Jacek Rybicki – who was he

He co-founded the Solidarity Electoral Action (he was in the national government from the beginning of its existence). Since 1997 he has been a member of the Social Movement of the Solidarity Electoral Action (AWS). In 1998 he was elected chairman of the AWS in the Gdańsk province, in 1999 chairman of the AWS Regional Council in the Pomeranian province. In 1999 he became chairman of the AWS Political Council, the closest collaborator of Marian Krzaklewski.

In the years 1997–2001 he was a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, 3rd term and a member of the Solidarity Electoral Action Club (among others its deputy chairman).

In 2001 he returned to trade union activity. In the years 2006-2010 he served as Secretary of the National Commission of NSZZ “S”.

Rybicki was born in Gdańsk in 1959. He was a graduate of the IX LO in Gdańsk. In 1983 he obtained a certificate of completion of studies at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Gdańsk.
