Jasło. Legionella in the hospital, Sanepid with bacterial control

We received information about the detection of bacteria of the genion of Legionella in the Specialist Hospital in Jasło at Contact24. According to our reader's notification, the facility was forbidden to use water even for washing.

Teresa Iwaniec, director of the Poviat Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Jasło, in response to the questions of contact journalists24, confirmed that in the hospital there during a routine water quality test, an elevated concentration of Legionella bacteria was detected.

“The sample, in which the oversized Legionella concentration was detected, came from a water system. The State Poviat Sanitary Inspector in Jasło immediately issued a decision with the immediate enforceability, ordering to take repair actions” – wrote Teresa Iwaniec.

According to the head of Jasielski Sanepid, the hospital began actions to eliminate bacteria. It includes, among others, cleaning and disinfection of hot water installations, thermal disinfection of the entire installation and replacement of parts of the perlimers (this is a strainer at the end of the screed). The clinic also excluded some showers from use in the places indicated in the decision.

“After completing the repair activities, a re -examination of water will be carried out in the hospital,” said the director of PSSE in Jasło.

Legionella infection usually leads to harmless respiratory infections. Some infected people may develop legionellosis, i.e. a severe form of an infection that can lead to serious health consequences. It manifests itself through muscle and headache, fever, dry cough and breathing problems. It can also cause vomiting and diarrhea.
