Francis criticized Trump's decisions
The Pope and Vatican officials criticized several decisions of the president's administration policy Donald Trumpincluding his plans for the deportation of millions of migrants from the USA and his widespread cuts in foreign help and national social programs.
Francis called immigration repression “disgrace”. Vance, who became a Catholic in 2019, referred to medieval teaching of the Catholic Church to justify this policy.
The Pope rejected the theological concept, which Vance used to defend repression in an unusual open letter to American Catholic bishops about Trump's administration in February and called Trump's plan a “serious crisis” for the United States.
In the media and expert comments, it was assessed that Vance's visit to the Vatican was to improve the relationship between the Vatican and the USA, especially in terms of the approach to migration.
