The United States can send troops to Ukraine or apply sanctions if Russia does not agree to a peace agreement that guarantees long -term independence to Kiev – said US vice president JD Vance in an interview with “Wall Street Journal”.
“There are economic pressure tools and of course there are military pressure tools”, and the option to send troops to Ukraine “remains on the table” – Vance told Dziennik.
The interview was conducted a few hours after the telephone conversations of US President Donald Trump on Wednesday first with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and then with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelnski, “WSJ” said. Trump announced that both leaders confirmed the readiness to achieve peace.

On Wednesday, US defense minister Pete Hegeth said in Brussels that the return of Ukraine to the borders before 2014 is a “unrealistic goal” and joining NATO is “unreal”. He admitted that a durable room in Ukraine must include solid security guarantees, but they would not be provided by American forces.
In this context – notes “WSJ” – Vance's words are “the strongest support from Trump so far” for Kiev.
Vance: There are several possible solutions
At the same time, Vance assessed that it is too early to determine how much part of Ukrainian areas occupied by Russia will remain in the hands of Moscow or what safety guarantees Kiev can be given to the US and other Western allies. “There are several possible solutions, but we care for Ukraine to keep sovereign independence,” he reserved.
In an interview with “WSJ”, the US Vice President also in favor of reset in relations with Moscow after a possible agreement on the war in Ukraine. As he explained, the international insulation in which Russia was found, makes it a weaker partner of China, and this “is not in the interest of Putin.”
61. Munich security conference
Vance will participate in the 61st Munich Safety Conference, which starts on Friday and will last until Sunday. He plans, among others, a meeting with Zelanski. The American vice president announced that in a Friday speech as part of this event he would call European European leaders to cooperate with populist parties. “I think, unfortunately, the will of voters has been neglected by many of our European friends,” he added.
