Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that he recently underwent surgery. The former host of the popular motoring show “Top Gear” began experiencing health problems while on vacation when he was unable to swim or go down the stairs on his own.
Jeremy Clarkson announced his health condition on Sunday in a column in The Sunday Times. He explained that he began to experience disturbing symptoms while on vacation on one of the islands in the Indian Ocean. During the trip, he was unable to swim two lengths of the pool. “I had never had problems swimming before, and now suddenly I couldn't do it. I also couldn't go down the stairs without holding someone's hand,” he wrote, adding that “all these problems appeared in one day.”

After returning home, Clarkson's condition gradually worsened. “On Wednesday morning I woke up not feeling very well. I was sweaty, I felt tightness in my chest,” wrote the 64-year-old presenter. However, he stated that he initially ignored these signals, but then later in the day he noticed that he felt a tingling sensation in his left arm. He was then taken to hospital by ambulance.
Tests ruled out a heart attack, but after further diagnostics it was decided that surgery was necessary. Clarkson quotes doctors who say that if he had come to them a few days later, his situation would have been much worse. “It looks like one of the arteries was completely blocked and the other one was heading in that direction,” he explained. As he added, during the procedure he was fitted with a stent, an implant that improves blood flow to the heart. “I came home the next morning and today, two hours later, I'm writing this and thinking, 'Gosh, that was close,'” admitted the former Top Gear host.
