Travel and tourism specialists from the British daily “The Independent” have created a list of their favorite places of the past year. There was one city from Poland on it.

Summarizing the past year, the British “The Independent” presented a list of favorite places in the world visited in 2024 by journalists from the travel section of this daily. “Some of the places we reached were off the traditional tourist routes, but we were also happy to return to always popular destinations to get to know them anew,” we read.

One place from Poland appears in the British newspaper's ranking.

“The Independent” about Łódź

“This beautiful Central European city has an incredibly long main street lined with impressive buildings. One of them is the wonderfully renovated Grand Hotel, probably the best I have stayed in this year,” writes Simon Calder, journalist of The Independent. “And since Poland is a country of luxury for less (money), we can treat ourselves to a stylish double room for £130 (approx. PLN 670),” he adds.

The British journalist and traveler raves about the “military-grade” wifi, a bathtub “the size of the Baltic Sea”, a dining room like a grand ballroom and a royal kitchen. In Łódź, he was enchanted by Manufaktura (a shopping and service center), where even the popular chain cafe “is spectacular”. He was also moved by a visit to the Jewish cemetery, “moving and beautiful,” as Calder writes.
