Magda Gessler He has been successfully running “at Fukier” for years. As we can read on the website, the place is the oldest restaurant in Warsaw with a tradition dating back to the beginning of the 16th century. The place located in the Old Town has been awarded many times by “Guide Michelin” and is the pride of the star Tvnwhich she did not hide during the interviews given. Due to the large reputation of the restaurant, I decided to take advantage of a special offer prepared for the clients of the premises in Valentine's Day. It was not without surprises.
Magda Gessler looks at the guests of the restaurant. The decor “at Fukier” is impressive
On February 14 I came to a Valentine's dinner at Magda's restaurant Gessler “At Fukier”. I entered the place through a large, massive door. After crossing the threshold, the service quickly greeted me. To my surprise However, it turned out that I was not on the list of guests, despite the day before the advance payment. Fortunately, the troublesome situation was quickly resolved after checking the transfer confirmation sent to the email. Then I was directed to the room, where I was indicated a table at which I could sit and wait for dishes.
The interior of “Fukier” makes a positive impression. Gessler tried to keep the original character of the age tenement house in the premises. The walls are decorated with historic figurines and photographs. There are many paintings in the premises, but one pierces special attention. We can see Magda Gessler in a slightly younger edition. A work that moves a restaurateur can be seen behind a glass vase with red cut flowers. The view resembles an altar in honor of the star. Thanks to this, each of the sitting guests knows who rules here.
“U Fukier” – prices, dishes and time of delivery of orders
The Valentine's dinner at Magda Gessler was definitely not the cheapest. The cost for one person was PLN 390. To this, 10 percent of the price for the service had to be added. Before making a reservation, it was necessary to pay an advance payment for dinner in the amount of PLN 100 per person. There were two variants of the tasting menu to choose from, and your decision as to the dishes had to be included in an email containing confirmation of the transfer. The first of the available menu options is:
- Mango-Avocado cocktail with a slightly spicy shrimp under the orange foam
- Velvet cream made of asparagus and spinach with a hint of chili, sprinkled with brushwood with leeks, sprinkled with bacon powder, plus sweet carrot caviar
- Deer Comber on a creamy celery and artichoke purée and aromatic Demi Glace made of roasted vegetables with blackberries, in the company of mushrooms and kale
- A sturgeon fillet on pasta with sepia, brushed with a love oyster and mussel sauce, and a kiss of broccoli decorated with red caviar
- A sweet heart full of strawberry pleasure with a smooth surprise inside
There was also a second menu to choose from, which contained completely different options from the first.
- Dancing salsa with mango and avocado with hot pepper and baked eggplant hidden under the orange foam
- Velvet cream made of asparagus and spinach with a hint of chili, sprinkled with brushwood from leek, plus sweet carrot caviar
- Vegetable shashlik with shitake mushrooms on a delicate celery mousse and aromatic demi glace made of roasted vegetables with cherry foam and roses
- Dried tomatoes, aromatic garlic, spinach and crushed tofu with pistachios woven with pasta
- Very fruity sorbet on jelly made of wine and red fruits poured with caramel from brandy
None of the offered menu contained anything to drink, so when I got to the table, I was given a drink card first. You could also choose drinks from Valentine's offer, which could be adapted to the dishes served. The cost of the five set is PLN 195 per person. However, I decided on winter tea for a surprisingly low price of 23 zlotys. The teapot brought to the table contained a warm drink with a slice of orange. It was tasty, though from a purse.
After a few minutes of expectations, a dish was given to the table opening dinner from the first menu I chose. Mango-Avocado cocktail with a slightly spicy shrimp under the orange foam tasted fresh and juicy. Subsequent dishes appeared on average every half hour, and in the meantime a musician on a trumpet, who sometimes replaced the instrument for a violin, played to dinner. Another served dish was a cream from asparagus and spinach with a hint of chili. The dish was well felt asparagus, but it was hard to feel a little sharpness. A slightly longer moment had to wait for the deer Comber. I did not like the dish because of its bland taste. He definitely lacked expressiveness. I liked the sturgeon fillet more, in which you could feel notes of seafood. Finally, a dessert was given, which surprised me especially positively. The cheesecake heart slightly sprinkled with gold filings definitely conquered my palate. After cutting the dessert, you could taste the fruit jam.
“U Fukier” – a summary of the Valentine's dinner. What price for everything?
To sum up: the Valentine's dinner at Magda Gessler was quite specific. The kitchen was delicate, characterized by good quality products and definitely for sophisticated palates. The service is helpful and despite the small mishaps, like the one with failure to write me on the guest list, I did not see any unpleasant situations. What is worth recalling, the problem was quickly solved and I was apologized for the mistake. The price for the entire dinner was definitely not low. I paid 454 zlotys and 30 groszy for the whole, which I consider an excessive amount.
