It is difficult not to refer to the case of Marcin Romanowski, because it is probably the most shocking story that PiS is telling us today – said KO's presidential candidate Rafał Trzaskowski. He noted that his PiS candidate Karol Nawrocki on Friday “said he would not say anything about it at all, that he was not interested in this story.” – How can you say that someone is not interested at all? – Trzaskowski asked.
PiS presidential candidate, president Institute of National Remembrance Karol Nawrocki was asked Friday what he thought about the case PiS MPformer deputy minister of justice Marcin Romanowski, who fled to Hungarian. – I don't think anything about the case of MP Marcin Romanowski – he replied.
– This is not a matter that arouses my interest. This is the MP's matter and is part of the public debate – he added. As he said, “a candidate for the office of the President of the Republic of Poland does not deal with this type of matters.”
Trzaskowski: my opponent says that he has nothing to say about all this
Later that day, the mayor of Warsaw and the candidate of the Civic Coalition spoke about Romanowski Rafał Trzaskowski during the meeting in Pabianice.
– It is difficult not to refer to the case of Minister Romanowski, because it is probably the most shocking story that PiS is telling us today. What is or is not being told to us by the PiS presidential candidate, Mr. Nawrocki, who said that he would not tell us anything about it at all, that he was not interested in this story – he said.
He noted that “the story is absolutely spectacular.” – This is not about some person who embezzled two zlotys. This is not about a person who made some clerical mistake. This is about someone who embezzled millions, hundreds of millions of zlotys. Who stole hundreds of millions of zlotys from a criminal organization – he said, recalling that Romanowski held the position of deputy minister in the Ministry of Justice.
– This is a story that probably has no precedent in Europe. Because I don't know of a story where there was a deputy minister of justice who embezzled hundreds of millions of zlotys – added Trzaskowski.
He noted that the PiS MP “talks that he is of course innocent, that he will face justice, and then runs away to another country and asks for asylum there.” – See what happens next. PiS politicians justify it. They say it's great, fantastic. They are happy that (Viktor) Orbanwho is today a eulogist (Vladimir) Putin and his closest friend in Europe, (…) grants asylum to Mr. Romanowski. And PiS doesn't see any problem in it, they just absolve him, he continued.
The mayor of the capital reminded that the prosecutor's office accuses Romanowski of committing a number of crimes. – This is something incredible. And to all this, my opponent says that he has nothing to say about it. I guess we have to ask what it would mean if, God forbid, someone from PiS won the presidential elections. What would that mean? Pardon? Pardoning dozens, hundreds of criminals who happen to be PiS colleagues – he said.
“How can you not have an opinion, I am asking Mr. Nawrocki, on such a fundamental matter?”
According to Trzaskowski, PiS politicians do not want to distance themselves from Romanowski, “because they think he is an absolute hero for them.” – And it's hard not to talk about it out loud. Because all these facts put together and the fact that PiS apparatchiks today have to flee to Orban or to Belarusor who knows where, this is the image of these times, the image of the last eight years – he continued.
– But we didn't come here to talk about the last eight years, but to think about the future – he emphasized. In his opinion, “today we need a president who will be fully independent.” – And independence means that someone has their own opinion. So how can you not have an opinion, I am asking Mr. Nawrocki, on such a fundamental issue? How can you say that this doesn't interest anyone at all? – he asked.
According to Trzaskowski, “we must elect a president who has his own opinion and will not wait for what Jarosław Kaczyński will say.” – Or he will not comment on shocking things because he is afraid of what PiS will say about it – he added.
