A resident of Mława County lost over PLN 100,000 when she trusted a person claiming to be a sailor sailing on container ships. The fraudster managed to build a close relationship with the victim and persuade her to make transfers that were supposed to enable her to receive the alleged shipment of valuable items.

The woman contacted the fraudster via a popular messenger. The police report that he pretended to be a Polish sailor working on container ships.

– During the exchange of messages, he managed to build a close relationship with the victim, using her trust and emotions. During the correspondence, the fraudster informed the woman that he had sent her a parcel containing valuable items, including personal items, documents and a large amount of money. The woman received a notification from the courier company about the need to pay for the parcel sent to her address – describes Staff Aspirant Anna Pawłowska from the District Police Headquarters in Mława.

He adds that notifications about the need to pay large amounts of money came many times. The woman took out a loan to settle the debt. – Only the family's reaction saved the woman from making further payments – the policewoman notes.

The injured party notified the police about the case. Before she realized that she had fallen victim to fraud, she had transferred over PLN 100,000.
