The “80th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising” collector's banknote has gone on sale. The NBP informs that it commemorates the Warsaw insurgents and the civilians who supported them. “The 20 PLN banknote measures 150 mm x 77 mm, and its circulation is up to 80,000 pieces. The banknotes will be available for purchase at all NBP District Branches and in the Kolekcjoner online store at a price of PLN 140,” the NBP reports.

Warsaw insurgents and civilians commemorated on the NBP banknote

The banknote presents a symbolic image of the 1944 independence uprising: on the front side, the victory of Polish soldiers, “who, despite poor armament and loneliness in combat, managed to win against the German occupiers, for example by capturing the PAST building” – informs the National Bank of Poland. And this is how the banknote looks:

The reverse side shows civilians praying during one of the field masses, held mainly in the courtyards of Warsaw tenement houses. The NBP reports that the banknote features security features such as microprints, guilloches, intaglio printing and a watermark showing the symbol of Fighting Poland and the date 1944.

Additionally, for the first time on a Polish banknote, a windowed security thread made using lens technology was used, which is located on the right side of the front side of the banknote. “When we move the banknote, we can observe a dynamic change in the colours of individual graphic elements placed on the thread – the symbol of Fighting Poland and the date '1944'” – we read.

Queues for the NBP collector's banknote

The new banknote has aroused great interest among collectors. The portal wroclaw.pl reports a queue in front of the local headquarters of the National Bank of Poland on Ofiar Oświęcimskich Street.

NBP collector coins and banknotes are sold in commercial packaging with a certificate. The next issue is scheduled for August 7, 2024. On that day, the National Bank of Poland will introduce into circulation silver collector coins with a face value of PLN 20 from the series “History of Polish coins” – “Grosz z miedzionówa Stanisława Augusta”.
