Hirek Wrona, a music journalist, detected prostate cancer on time through a PSA test, which doctors recommend to every man. The government's plan is to expand occupational medicine research to include, among others, PSA. This is to happen in the first half of 2025.
In the music that Hirek Wrona loves so much, harmony is important. A combination of good text and beautiful sounds. A few months ago, a music journalist received test results that clearly showed that something was wrong with him.
– Last December I had my traditional PSA done and everything was fine. In June, it turned out that it suddenly shot into space – says Hirek Wrona, a music journalist.
Everything happened quickly after that. Further tests and diagnosis. In July, he underwent surgery for prostate cancer. The journalist talked about his ordeal in the “Blizny. Onkologia” program on TVN24 GO. He quit smoking and encourages other men to test their PSA levels – very important in detecting prostate cancer.
Encouragement to do research is always useful – not only for men, but also for women. Only slightly over 30 percent of eligible women undergo preventive mammography examinations.
Research in occupational medicine can be expanded
There is a chance to improve the situation: expanding occupational medicine tests to include mammography, cytology and PSA levels. – The direction is very good, but everything is in the details – says Joanna FrÄ…tczak-Kazana from the “Alivia” Oncological Foundation.
The plan is as follows: while glucose, body mass index and lipid profile will be mandatory for everyone in occupational medicine tests, mammography, cytology or PSA will not be. Patients will decide themselves whether they want to use them. Their results will not affect your admission to work.
– Doctors and nurses will encourage people who should undergo these tests – announces Jakub GoÅ‚Ä…b, spokesman for the Ministry of Health. – Patients should also be given the opportunity to register immediately during such a visit – points out Joanna FrÄ…tczak-Kazana.
When will the Ministry of Health expand testing?
Back in July, the Minister of Health was asked about the date of extending occupational medicine tests, including mammography. – I would like it to happen from January 1, 2025 – said Izabela Leszczyna, Minister of Health from the Civic Coalition, in July.
Now the spokesman is talking about the first half of the year and points out that the ministry is also planning to introduce another program that will also benefit those without employment contracts.
– From January, we will develop the program within primary health care. There, people 18 plus will be able to take advantage of extended tests, including to detect cancer, said Jakub GoÅ‚Ä…b.
The “Profilaktyka 40 plus” program is still running until the end of the year. The package includes, among others, a PSA test. – Let's take care of our health, because health is the beautiful moments in life – appeals Hirek Wrona.
