A 12-year-old boy found a plastic bag near the store with PLN 7,000 inside. He handed everything over to the supermarket employees and waited for the police to arrive. Thanks to Dominik's honesty, the owner of the money got his savings back.
A few days ago, a 12-year-old resident of Olesno in the Opole region found a plastic bag with money worth nearly PLN 7,000 near a store. Dominik informed the store employees about his find, who then handed over the cash to officers from the Olesno police station. The very next day, thanks to the teenager's honesty, the owner got his savings back.
He gave back the money he found
– We were baking gingerbread and suddenly we ran out of some ingredient, I think it was cream, so I went to the store. After shopping, when I unfastened my bike and was leaving, I found a plastic bag. It was transparent and I saw that there was money there. I took it to the store to the employees. They were surprised that it was such an amount. They told me to call the police. When the police arrived, they counted the cash and took it, says Dominik
The boy had also called his mother earlier and said that he was waiting for the police.
– At first I was scared because I didn't know what happened, but when he started talking later, of course I said that I was very proud of him. I'm glad he acted this way. I was at home with my younger daughter at the time, but my husband works in the fire brigade and was nearby, so he approached my son. When he arrived, the police were already there and the money was counted. Dominik received congratulations and applause from the store employees and policemen and returned home, says Katarzyna Fiedor, the 12-year-old's mother.

On Thursday, December 19, the district police commander in Olesno, Insp. Paweł Kolczyk visited the school where the 12-year-old goes. The commander thanked Dominik for the appropriate reaction and exemplary behavior, giving the teenager a small gift. Thanks were also given to the boy's parents.
– It should be noted here that this is a very unique situation, because in other cases such a story could have ended completely differently. Someone could appropriate this money, and as we know, the misappropriation of money worth more than PLN 800 is a crime under Article 278 of the Penal Code, punishable by three months to five years' imprisonment – explains Junior Asp. Marek Kotara, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Olesno.
