The prosecutor's office in Ostrołęka completed the investigation in the case of 31-year-old Mateusz M. accused of committing 27 fraud and causing damage in a total amount of about two and a half million zlotys. One of the victims of the fraudster was a widow of a man who died in a road accident.

A spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor's Office, prosecutor Elżbieta Edyta Łukasiewicz said that in the course of the investigation it was established that Mateusz M. was active in Warsaw, Ostrołęka, Pułtusk, Ostrów Mazowiecka, Myszyniec, Kadzidła, Maków Mazowiecki, Łysych, Nowogrod and other smaller towns.

“In the period from 2017 to December 2023, he extorted from 13 friends a loan in the total amount of PLN 425,000 700. He borrowed for purposes related to settling matters in offices, explaining to his friends that he had problems with the law. He also borrowed allegedly the repairs of apartments, economic investments, payment of taxes or customs. implementation.

“Intermediation when buying agricultural equipment”

In the announcement of the Ostrołęka prosecutor's office explained that Mateusz M. presented himself as a wealthy person, conducting business activity in the field of bringing agricultural machinery and equipment and cars from the USA.

“He offered mediation when buying agricultural equipment or its sale, including agricultural machinery, tractors, construction elements of the production hall, Audi passenger cars or Volvo. During meetings with contractors, he showed them photos of equipment that could bring from abroad. After establishing contact and cooperation with sophisticated victims, he signed contracts with them, from which he did not intend to perform” prosecutor.

He was to charge significant advances for the obligations accepted. “In the period until June 2022 to March 2024, 10 people fell victims of the fraudster. The suspect extorted a total of almost one and a half million zlotys from the victims,” ​​calculated Łukasiewicz.

The victim of Mateusz M. was also a woman with whom he made contact through an internet messenger. In the spring of 2024 He offered her mediation in obtaining compensation for a traffic accident in which her husband was killed.

Allegations

Ultimately, Mateusz M. was charged with fraud against the property of a significant value to the detriment of several dozen people, making themselves committing crimes a permanent source of income, relying on influence in state institutions and criminal threats. “The suspect confessed to committing almost all the accusations of him and gave extensive explanations. In the course of the investigation, it was established that Mateusz M. had a helper. Katarzyna K. was accused of committing two frauds committed together with M. The accused pleaded to her charges.

“The suspect is punishable by imprisonment of up to 15 years and forfeiture of achieved property benefits, which amount to a total of about two and a half million zlotys” – summed up a representative of the Ostrołęka prosecutor's office.
