The mayor of Karczew Michał Rudzki announced that the water in the taps in the city will be fit to drink around Saturday, April 12. The problem is related to the failure of the water treatment station in nearby Otwock. There, water is not suitable for consumption. This Saturday, April 5, residents will find out if it will be suitable for washing. The prosecutor's office, in turn, informed about the investigation in this case.
Work is underway in Otwock on removing a water treatment plant failure. Residents of the city, as well as neighboring Karczew, cannot use water from taps for drinking, cooking and even washing. You can only rinse the toilets. In both places, barrels are set up and water in plastic bottles is distributed. In the area of places where there is not even water in cisaches (upper floors of the highest buildings), portable toilets were set up.
The mayor of Karczew, when asked on Radio Warszawa on Friday about when there would be a drinking water in the taps, he replied that “optimistic, water will be able to drink around Saturday”.
These are slightly worse estimates than those that were switched on Thursday. President Otwock Jarosław Margielski pointed out that next week – on Thursday or Friday, the first information will be provided as to the possibility of using water for food purposes. The same approximate term was indicated by the Otwock staroste Tomasz Laskus.
Delivery of drinking water
As Michał Rudzki informed on Friday, subsequent water supplies are to reach the commune. – We expect one transport from a large commercial network, which gave us a water truck donation. Five trucks from the Government Strategic Reserve Agency come, which will be divided between Karczew and Otwock – said the mayor of Karczew.
When asked about the limits, he estimated that “at the moment (…) they would be at the level of the weld per person and, possibly, two five -liter labia per person.” He added that water in stores is also available.
On Friday in Karczew there was a reporter of tvnwarszawa.pl Klemens Arykowski. – There are firefighters and soldiers of the Territorial Defense Forces at the water release points. Everything goes smoothly. There are no queues – said our reporter.

The results will be on Saturday
“The results of water samples taken yesterday morning (3 April) will be known tomorrow (on Saturday). The research methodology requires a period of 24 hours for physicochemical tests and a period of 48 hours for bacteriological tests. Only the determination of all values from the conducted research will constitute the basis for providing information about the usefulness of water for washing” – said Aleksandra Czajkowska from the press office of the City Hall in Otwock.
This Saturday, a press conference is also planned in this matter.
What is the current situation? “The city and Opwik organized 29 points with barrels, three bottled water distribution points for residents. Water is supplied on a regular basis. Deliveries are also carried out to service and production points in the city according to the reported demand. Until 14.00, 230,000 bottles of water 1.5 lips 5 thousand bottles of 5 L” were distributed to residents – said Czajkowska.
Serious failure
The government security center informed that the water in Otwock and Karczew is unfit for consumption and for sanitary and living purposes on Wednesday morning.
Jarosław Margielski said at a press conference that there was a failure of a bus supplying a water treatment station. – After the network was filled, the sediment was broken, which was cumulative on this network. The excessive amount of sediment has contaminated the filters that are located at the water treatment plant, which provides over 80 percent of the city with water – said President Otwock. “This is the most serious failure for several decades,” he said.
Investigation of the prosecutor's office
A spokesman for the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor's Office Norbert Antoni Woliński said that on Thursday the District Prosecutor's Office in Otwock initiated an investigation into unintentional bringing danger to the life or health of many people, “having the form of damage, and consequently the immobilization of a public use of the public water supplying drinking water in Otwock and Karczew.”
– According to the findings made so far, the damage to the public appliance has not been caused by the intentional operation of third parties. The investigation undertakes actions to clarify the circumstances of the incident – noted Prosecutor Woliński.
