Paweł Kowal from the Civic Coalition, the government's plenipotentiary for the reconstruction of Ukraine, explained in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 his contacts with the entrepreneur Witold K., closely related to the Belarusian oligarch. He said he “didn't know him very well” and the services didn't warn him who this man was. He admitted that it is necessary to consider an additional method of checking a person who receives a one-time pass to enter the Sejm.
Witold K., who has corruption charges and close ties to the Belarusian oligarch, was received at least 50 times by high officials, including ministers of the current and previous government – according to documents obtained by reporters of TVN24's “Black and White”. According to our information, in activities aimed at implementing a multi-million contract with Kenyawhich Witold K. is fighting for, both the former prime minister got involved Mateusz Morawieckias well as the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski.
In October – as we revealed in the report “Łukaszenko's Cooks” – Witold K. appeared in the Sejm at the invitation of KO MP Krzysztof Truskolaski, which the politician confirmed to us. The Podlasie entrepreneur met there with the head of the foreign affairs committee, Paweł Kowal.
Kowal, asked by a TVN24 reporter, admitted that he had previously met Witold K. three times in Podlasie, and in the Sejm – as the PO politician says – K. asked about the agreement with Kenya.
Kowal on contacts with Witold K. “I don't know him well”
Kowal talked more about this case in Friday's “Fakty po Faktach”.
The KO politician was asked whether he knew that Witold K. was facing corruption charges when he met him in the Sejm. – To be honest, I don't know him very well at all. Yesterday I remembered that I met him, he replied.
He said that this “case has two aspects.” In his opinion, when working on the reportage, he should be asked for a broader statement on this subject.
– When making this material, you should have asked me about it. You have presented this material many times. I was recorded somewhere by accident, in the corridor, while running – Kowal accused. Meanwhile, TVN24 journalist Dariusz Kubik, asking the politician about his connections with Witold K., clearly told him that the person he was meeting was facing corruption charges. – Do you know that this man is facing corruption charges for this contract related to Kenya? He corrupted the Kenyan minister – our reporter said to Kowal.
Kowal: The services didn't inform me
As the head of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee continued, the question remains whether such people should meet with politicians and whether there should be “some special information system.” – Maybe he should be. I don't know if it's possible to warn MPs in the Sejm to look at their calendars, who they will meet and screen them, he continued.
When asked if the services had warned him who Witold K. was, the blacksmith replied: – No, of course not.
When asked if he thought they should do so, he replied: – They would have to know my calendar, (…). I think that it would be possible to invite experts on such issues and, for example, try to consider whether such a verification should actually be carried out when entering the Sejm. I know that such verifications apply to permanent passes. Are they for single passes? I don't know.
Kowal: you should consider additional checking
He emphasized that it is necessary to consider an additional method of checking a person who receives a one-time pass to enter the Sejm. – It cannot be done in practice otherwise – he added.
– I trust the Polish services because I know political life and practice. We need to think about what to change, what to improve, but criticizing on this basis or spreading stories about lack of trust in the Polish services on this basis is an anti-state action. I will never decide to do so, because I know how difficult Poland's security situation is today – continued the Civic Coalition politician.
