Warm smartphone during charging, this is nothing unusual – after all, a lot of current flows through the device. Especially now, when manufacturers are competing with each other in fast charging technologies, our phones can get quite hot. The question is where it lies limit between normal and emergency?
A slight warmth during charging is nothing to worry about. Modern smartphones, especially those with fast charging, naturally generate more heat – this is the result of higher current flowing through the battery. As long as the phone is just warm and functioning normally, everything is fine.
Red flags, or when you should be concerned
The situation becomes serious when the phone becomes so hot that it begins to slightly burn your hands. This is the first and most important warning signal. Equally disturbing are messages about overheating or sudden shutdown of the device. In extreme cases, too high a temperature can not only damage the battery, but even lead to it leaking or – in a very rare worst-case scenario – fire.
Why is my phone getting too hot?
There can be many reasons for overheating. Often the culprit is a cheap charger with the wrong voltage. The smartphone may also overheat, when we use it intensively while charging – playing demanding games or long video calls puts a heavy load on the processor.
The place where we charge the phone is also important. Leaving it in the sun or under the pillow is asking for trouble. Like charging in a thick rubber casewhich acts like a thermos, retaining heat inside the device.
How to charge wisely?
To avoid unpleasant surprises, it is worth sticking to a few proven rules. Firstly, let's not save on the charger – original or good quality replacement is the basis for safety. While charging, leave the phone on a hard surface, preferably in a ventilated place.
If we often play games or watch movies, Let's wait until the phone is charged. And if we have to use it while charging, let's avoid it application heavily loading the processor. It is also worth removing the case – especially those made of materials that conduct heat poorly.
What if the problem persists?
When your phone regularly overheats despite following the above rules, this may indicate battery exhaustion or a more serious problem. In such a case, a visit to the service center or reporting the phone to the warranty is necessary. It's better to play safe than risk more serious damage or even a safety hazard.
