Sikorski: Our readiness will scare away, and the weakness will encourage the aggressor

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to the plans to dispose of Europe and assessed that the so -called “White Book” and the “Rearm Europe” plan should become an “effective road map to make Member States increase their investments in defense capabilities”.

– Our common goal should be to rebuild European security architecture in a way that will reduce the risk of war in the long term. Our readiness will scare away, and the weakness will encourage the aggressor – said Sikorski. He explained that the East Targe project “is an integral part of a new approach to European security.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also assured that Europe remains united in strengthening military support for Ukraine. – We hope that our allies in America at the moment see who wants peace and who wants war. Ukraine agreed unconditionally to the suspension of a weapon, while Putin extends artificial conditions – he noted, referring to negotiations on a truce between Ukraine and Russia.

– We hope that Russia will finally agree, and if not, the fact that President Trump will make the right conclusions, namely, will increase the pressure on President Putin. Poland will support any solution that will be guaranteed by a fair, durable and stable peace for democratic Ukraine – he added.

An alternative to Starlink systems in Ukraine

During the conference, Andrius Kubilius was asked about the state of discussion about the alternative to systems Starlink in Ukraine. The Commissioner emphasized that “an interesting conversation with transatlantic partners” ended “with a clear statement that Starlinki would not be turned off.” He assessed this as “good news”.

– Of course, all these discussions really forced us to ask ourselves what we are ready to do. I will not go into details here, but I can say that there are solutions that we will be able to implement if things were to go in some unexpected direction – he said.

As Kubilius added, the construction of the Iris2 satellite system began, but he pointed out that “it will be operated only from 2029”. He emphasized, however, that from the middle of this year there will be a Govsatcom system (The European Union Governmental Satellite Communications – ed.), I.e. the system of integrated satellite communication of the Union member states based on the consolidation of national assets.

– I always say that the “White Book” is a really important strategic document, but we can not expect Putin to read our “white books” and it will come to the conclusion that he has already scared – he noted. As Kubilius assessed, only the implementation of the findings of the document “should really scare the aggressor”. He described the finalization of these regulations as an important role of the Polish Presidency in the EU Council.

Sikorski about Trump's duties: We've already seen this movie

Sikorski was further asked if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted talks with the American side regarding customs, which the president announced on Wednesday USA Donald Trump. He reminded about the appeal of Prime Minister Donald Tusk to Trump about “not to use such sanctions between friends.”

– I am in favor of free trade. We already had duties in the 1930s, they deepened the economic crisis. Customs duties slow down trade, irritate production lodges. We have already seen this film and we know how it ends – he assessed.

– I hope that Polish nationalists will understand that thanks to God we are part of the European Union, which as equivalent to the United States, the economy can respond to something like that. We do it with the highest reluctance, but we can not be a passive victim of protectionist practices. In this field European Union It is a federation and this is a field in which it is the strongest and in which the Member States use – noted the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
