What's going on? Poczta Polska is to pay over PLN 27 million for the organization of would -be envelope elections in 2020. It was then considered to choose president in correspondence voting due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Office of Personal Data Protection decided that during the preparation for elections “without a legal basis, data was processed 30 million citizens from the base Pesel“This is the highest penalty awarded by the supervisory authority in Poland. Fact unjustified disclosure of personal data from the register Pesel and their processing by Poczta Polska threatened the proper implementation of the rights of citizens under the constitution – explained the president of UODO Mirosław Wróblewski.
More penalties: The minister of digitization was also punished. He will have to pay a fine of 100,000 PLN for giving consent to transfer the data to Poczta Polska.
