Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague was closed on Sunday evening due to black ice forming on the runways. The roads are also slippery and trucks and buses have problems getting up hills.

The airport authorities appealed to travelers to check the situation regarding individual flights on the airport's website. There are also problems on public transport routes leading to the terminals.

The biggest problems are signaled from roads that lead through hills and mountains. Trucks and buses have trouble climbing hills. Road workers appealed to drivers not to go on mountain routes without chains on their wheels. The D5 motorway leading from Pilsen to Prague was impassable for several hours.

Warnings in many places

With the exception of a few districts in Silesia and the south of the Czech Republic, a warning against black ice or freezing sleet is in force throughout the country. Meteorologists point out that the temporary cessation of rainfall does not mean its end. A new wave of rainfall is moving over the Czech Republic from the west. It is or will be raining freezing rain. There may still be snowfall in the mountains.

On Sunday, due to difficult weather conditions, people using airports in Great Britain also had to face problems. Several airports interrupted operations as a result of heavy snowfall.
