The motion of a group of councilors from Prague, Czech Republic, came in response to criticism from residents. Those complained about noise in the city. They also pointed to the issue of security.
The councilors decided to adopt a groundbreaking resolution i they banned popular pub crawl events. They were mainly used by foreign tourists visiting the capital Czech.
The concept is quite simple and known, among others: In Krakow. Late in the evening and at night, the group – under the guidance of a guide – goes on a “trip” to pubs, tasting local alcoholic specialties. Meetings allow you to make friends and better integration.
Prague. Ban on pub crawls in the Czech capital
“Improper alcohol consumption and inappropriate pub crawling behavior can create an impression of a lack of civility in the community, reduce the sense of safety and may negatively impact tourists' perception of the city, potential investors and citizens themselves” – stated in the justification of the motion voted by Prague councilors.
The new rules prohibit organizing pub crawl events from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. This provision does not apply to regular tourist groups.
Deputy Mayor of Prague Jiří Pospíšil drew attention to the new strategy of the Czech capital. In his opinion, the city “is looking for more cultured, wealthier tourists (…), not those who come for a short time to get drunk,” he said, quoted by AFP.
