The Lord is lying. No decisions were made to submit a command over the Polish army or defense budget – wrote Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. It was a response to the entry of PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński in the case adopted in the Sejm resolution regarding the security of Poland and the East shield.
He accepted the Sejm last Thursday resolution on the security of Poland. She says that the Sejm, “guided by the care of the security of the Republic of Poland, expresses full support for the solutions contained in the European Parliament resolution of March 12” regarding the strengthening of EU defense. The resolution indicates, among others, that the east and Baltic shield should be flagship EU projects for supporting deterrence and overcoming potential threats from the East.
As in the European Parliament, PiS deputies and the confederation voted against the resolution.
On Thursday on the platform x PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński He wrote: “Tusk's decisions regarding defense are the devotion to Brussels and Berlin Polish money for armaments and control over the Polish army. We cannot agree to give the relevant attributes of our sovereignty. They know what they are doing and trying to hide it from Poles with a false resolution of the Sejm.”
Sikorski to Kaczyński: You are lying
On Monday, the head of Polish diplomacy answered to Kaczyński's entry Radosław Sikorski. “Lord is lying. No decisions have been made to transfer a command over the Polish army or defense budget,” he wrote.
He added that “obtaining European defense skills and European funds to finance the defense of the Member States and the Union itself is in our national interest.”
European Parliament resolution and East shield
The European Parliament voted on March 12 a resolution on strengthening EU defense. As part of it, an unprecedented amendment proposed by the PO-PSL delegation in the European People's Party (EPL), recognizing the east shield, i.e. the flagship project of the Prime Minister Donald Tuskfor the flagship project for the joint security of the EU. The document was adopted by the PE by a vulnerable majority of votes (419 to 204). The resolutions were not supported by PiS MEPs and the Confederation.
On March 19, the East shield for the protection of the EU land border was indicated by the European Commission in the so -called “White Book” as a critical area in rearming Europe. The EC has clarified the European Disarction Plan presented by the head of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen. Among other things, it is about EUR 150 billion loans for arms projects, loosening the budget discipline of the Member States in the field of defense expenditure and the possibility of moving funds within the EU budget.
The document emphasized that the presence of the American armed forces in Europe contributed to its addiction to the United States. The EC also indicated seven defensive areas in which the EU has large gaps, the filling of which she considered key to strengthening EU defense. These are: air and missile defense, artillery systems, ammunition and bullets, drones and anti -done systems, military mobility, the use of artificial intelligence and innovative defense technologies, and strategic factors supporting defense capacity and protection of critical infrastructure. As part of the last area, the East shield was replaced.
The “East shield” is a project coordinated by the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff of the Polish Army assuming the construction of various types of military installations and fortifications along the borders with Russia and Belarus. On the one hand, these installations are to support the capabilities of Polish and allied troops, and to the other to make a possible striker into the country. The “East shield” is to be integrated with an analogous Baltic line of defense, created in cooperation with Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
The Polish project provides for strengthening about 800 kilometers of border, and is to cost about PLN 10 billion. Work on it is to be completed in 2028 – then he is to be transferred to the management component of the border defense.
