During the convention, the Civic Coalition's candidate for president, Rafał Trzaskowski, accused the president of the National Bank of Poland, Adam Glapiński, of causing galloping inflation and called on him to lower interest rates. – The end of politicization and the end of incompetence at the National Bank of Poland – he emphasized. He stated that Poland should be an economic power.
He indicated that he talked to Poles about what this campaign should be about. “There are three things that Poles remind me every time: economy, security and equality, that's what this campaign will be about,” he said. He also emphasized that Poland needs economic patriotism. – The EU cannot continue to conduct pointless discussions. We need pragmatism. The EU should be a power, the European economy and agriculture should be a power. Poland should be a power. The Polish economy should be a powerhouse, noted Trzaskowski.
Trzaskowski on “economic patriotism”
At Saturday's convention in Gliwice, he talked about “galloping inflation” and high butter prices, for which – in his opinion – Glapiński is responsible. – The end of politicization and incompetence in the National Bank of Poland (…). Today we need strong cash, today we need an independent president of the NBP and a sensible policy, said Trzaskowski, calling on the president of the NBP to lower interest rates.
Trzaskowski put forward a demand for the release of community energy and announced, among other things, construction of distributed energy storage facilities.
– Energy companies must share responsibility for energy prices. It cannot be that the entire cost of the energy transformation is transferred to the shoulders of citizens and entrepreneurs, he emphasized. He also emphasized that the president's task is to promote Polish companies around the world. – Economic patriotism is about strengthening Polish companies and a clear tax system. This I promise you, he added.
KO candidate on the interests of Polish farmers
KO candidate He opposed the EU trade agreement with the Mercosur countries. He emphasized that it was necessary to protect the interests of Polish farmers
– It cannot be that the European Union tightens standards to defend biodiversity and thus opens its borders to goods from Ukraine or China. It cannot be that the European Union, wanting to acquire new markets in South America, wants to adopt this type of agreement, which unfortunately threatens the interests of our farmers – said Trzaskowski. – There should be no consent from member states to the Mercosur agreement – he emphasized.
– I am very proud of Polish food, of our amazing goose meat. Why shouldn't the whole world get to know it, shouldn't get to know Polish cheeses, wouldn't get to know tomatoes that have a taste, wouldn't get to know Polish raspberries – and there are none sweeter anywhere in the world, wouldn't get to know Polish beer, or, mind you, white wine, which it is getting better and better and can compete with French wine – added Trzaskowski. – Listen, I already have a slogan ready: Bonjour! Drink Polish wine!”; “Polish soups are powerful,” he said.
– Don't let yourself be convinced that there is any dissonance, any difference of opinion between Polish farmers and us – Polish consumers. We want to eat healthy Polish food, we are proud of it. We want Polish food to be competitive because it is also an element of our security, said Trzaskowski.
“We need to make energy prices fall”
During the KO convention in Gliwice, Trzaskowski argued that in recent years, PiS – instead of focusing on the well-being of citizens – “has created a new caste of millionaires using our money.” – We must focus on ensuring that the Polish economy regains its competitiveness – he said.
KO's presidential candidate pointed out that one of the most important issues is the availability of cheap energy. – Look what has happened in recent years. Energy in Poland is twice as expensive. What was Morawiecki doing? He imported Russian coal, killed energy from windmills, and wasted money from the European Union – said Trzaskowski.
– We must make energy prices fall – and we will make this happen, not only through ad hoc government actions, but by pursuing a policy that is planned and strategic, he said. He emphasized that the energy transformation should be carried out in such a way that all citizens benefit from it. – The transformation of mining must be a social process. For years, Polish mining has provided us with safety, dignity, work and respect for tradition – he said, thanking the miners.
