50 ramps for manual removal of snow and ice from trucks will be built across the country, Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak announced on Saturday at a briefing. The cost of one ramp with accompanying infrastructure is approximately PLN 350,000.
The head of the MI during a briefing on the upcoming winter season on roads, organized at the Widoma Wschód MOP on the S7 road in Małopolska, informed that the ministry, together with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) decided to build special ramps for manual removal of snow and ice from trucks.
– We have decided to build 50 ramps of this type throughout the country in the near future – said Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak.
– We have prepared a systemic solution – he added.
Minister on threats
The minister pointed out that snow and ice falling from a vehicle can cause “not only a collision or damage to another vehicle, but sometimes a serious accident and death of other road users.” – We know that truck drivers are not only young people, but also older people who have mobility problems, and it should be easier for them to remove this type of snow from their vehicles – he noted.
Klimczak announced that “from this year, every new MOP that is leased will have to be equipped with a ramp for removing snow and ice from trucks.”
– There will be more passenger service areas, we still have over 130 MOPs to build – he added.
Klimczak said that thousands of employees and 2,800 vehicles, including plows and salt plows, are ready for the winter season. – We want winter to no longer surprise road workers – he concluded.
About snow removal ramps
Ramps are devices for manual, independent snow removal. Automatic ramps include, for example, blowers (such a device is only available at MOP Woźniki Zachód on A1) and mechanical brushes. However, GDDKiA prefers to use manual ramps due to their lower failure rate.
Polish MOPs, which are already considered the best equipped in Europe, will have additional facilities. Poland will be one of the few countries in Europe where several dozen ramps will be available. In Europe they occur, among others: In Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Estonia and Slovenia.
The cost of one ramp with accompanying infrastructure is approximately PLN 350,000. zloty.
In total, by 2026, there will be over 70 devices on the Polish expressway network to facilitate the removal of snow and ice from trucks.
