Due to too high levels of air pollution, the international airport in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, canceled many scheduled flights on Friday, the Oslobodjenje daily reported.
“Polluted air, isolated Sarajevo. Many flights were canceled and numerous planes were redirected to other routes,” the Bosnian press reported. “Oslobodjenje” reported that some of Friday's connections were redirected to Dubrovnik, Croatia.
The daily added that “Sarajevo is currently the fourth most polluted city in the world and the first in Europe.” Only Lahore, Delhi and Beijing are ahead of the capital of BiH.
New connections with Sarajevo
The daily recalled that in recent days the international airport in Sarajevo has expanded its offer to include flights to Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Hannover, Rome and London.
“If the air problem in Sarajevo persists, it is worth asking how much the residents and the airport itself will benefit from the new connections,” the daily notes.
