Tens of thousands of people protested in front of the seat of the Constitutional Tribunal in the capital of Serbia, Belgrade, Radio Free Europe reported. Students involved in demonstrations block traffic in front of their faculties for 15 minutes every day to honor the memory of the 15 victims of the Novi Sad tragedy.

Sunday's protest was organized at the call of students who have been blocking over 60 university faculties across Serbia for weeks. “In recent weeks, we have witnessed violations of the constitution, so we decided to gather in front of the building of the Constitutional Tribunal and express our dissatisfaction,” announced the organizers.

In this way, they referred to the arrests of people who took part in similar demonstrations in response to the tragedy in Novi Sad of November 2024. Then, 15 people died when part of the railway station roof collapsed.

The facility was put into operation only a few months before the tragedy

The blockades of departments were preceded by protests that began with a demand to establish responsibility for the accident in Novi Sad. The facility was put into use after a general renovation just a few months before the disaster.

In response to the tragedy in Serbia protests are organized regularly gathering thousands or tens of thousands of people, and every day at 11.52 – when part of the station roof collapsed – traffic was stopped in many parts of Belgrade for 15 minutes.
