The city of Pinetown in the South Republic of Aryka has recently experienced heavy rainfall. On Friday a car was found, which the day before was kidnapped by flood water. The woman driving the vehicle did not survive.
It has been raining intensively in the South Republic of Aryka since Thursday. Floods appeared in Pinetown. The inflow of water contributed to the destruction of the bridges, the overflow of rivers and significant damage to the infrastructure.
Car kidnapped by water
According to the Department of Government Cooperation and Traditional Affairs, Kwazulu-Natal (Cogta), the violent weather deprived at least one person. A fatal victim is a woman who drove a car through one of the bridges on Thursday. The vehicle was kidnapped by masses of water. The car was found on Friday morning. It was necessary to temporarily close the road to regain the woman's body safely.
In the Friday statement of Kwazulu-Natal Cogta announced “extensive cleansing operations”. It was reported that the scale of damage is huge. In some parts of the region there were problems in the supply of electricity.
Floods also appeared in the cities of Pietermaritzburg, Howick and in Mpophomeni. In turn, one of the shopping centers was flooded in the city of Greytown.
It will still rain
The services also warned that the dangerous weather would not let go over the weekend.
– We expect further rainfall. We recommend taking precautions. If you don't have to travel, stay at home, because many roads are wet and covered with debris – a medical paramedic Garrith Jamieson appealed.
