A pair of off-duty police officers noticed a man running out of a store with a full shopping cart and acting very nervously. The officers tried to find out why, and then he pushed the cart away and ran away.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 24, in Radom. Off-duty police officers were driving by a store on Główna Street. A policewoman from the 3rd police station in Radom and an officer from the Radom Central Bureau of Investigation drew attention to a man who ran out of the store with a full basket and was behaving very nervously.

– They suspected that the man had committed theft, so they drove into the parking lot to check it out. They approached the man, introduced themselves and asked if the purchases were his and if he had a receipt for them. It quickly turned out that they came from a crime. The perpetrator pushed the basket away and tried to escape, but was thwarted by a police pair – describes Justyna JaÅ›kiewicz from the city police headquarters in Radom in a press release.

They informed the officer on duty at the Radom police station about the incident, who sent a police patrol to the scene. The shoplifter stole alcohol and coffee, among other things, and the value of the losses he caused amounted to almost 1.5 thousand złoty. The 36-year-old resident of Radom was detained and taken to police custody. He was charged with theft.

Article 278 § 1. Whoever takes someone else's movable property for the purpose of misappropriation shall be subject to the penalty of deprivation of liberty for a term of between 3 months and 5 years.
