The Slovak prime minister threatened to block the Thursday summit of the European Union on financial and military assistance for Ukraine. Robert Fico demands that the community support his demand for Kiev to restore gas transit through Ukraine. He also rejected Bratislava's participation in rearming the country attacked by Russia.
Prime minister Slovakia Robert Fico threatened on Monday at the conference that he could block some of the conclusion from the European Union summit planned for Thursday, which are to apply to further financial and military assistance for Ukraineintended – in his opinion – to continue the war. At the same time, he allowed to withdraw from blocking if the Union will support Bratislava's proposal regarding Kiev restoring gas transit through Ukraine.
Fico: Slovakia will not participate in the reference of Ukraine
In the opinion of the Słowacki Prime Minister, most EU members are in favor of continuing the war, and his country – behind the room. He rejected the statement that Ukraine is fighting, among others for Slovakia. He decided that she was harmful because she took steps to increase gas prices.
Bratislava would also like to add to the conclusion of the EU summit a record about the need to immediately suspend weapons in Ukraine. Fico considers earlier meetings of representatives of some European countries regarding Ukraine as combat meetings in the interest of continuing the war.
He also rejected initiatives aimed at reheating Ukraine. He said that this strategy has not worked so far and Slovakia would not participate in it.
Fico argued that Slovakia has no objections to the provisions proposed in the conclusion regarding the strengthening of EU defense capabilities. He believes that they should be accompanied by decisions to loosen the budget discipline and consent to the use of money for defense for military-civil projects.
Robert Ficy's pro -Russian course
Robert Fico has been criticized for some time for peeling a more pro -Russian course. Attached Wołodymyr Zelanski for the end of the gas transit from Russiawhich so far flowed through Ukraine, and its recipient was, among others Slovakia.
The Prime Minister has already formulated a threat at Zelanski that if he did not lead to the resumption of gas transit, he would veal the European Union's decisions to help Kiev, suspend humanitarian aid – for example, regarding relaxation – and providing electricity, and also reduce help for Ukrainians staying in Slovakia.
On the tense Slovak-Ukrainian relationships, December was also negative Ficy's visit to Moscow and conversations in the Kremlin with Vladimir Putin. Politics' actions also meet with the dissatisfaction of the Slovaks, which they expressed them in street protests, demanding the cessation of cooperation with Russia and changing the direction of foreign policy of the country.
