The man was arrested at the end of December in one of the apartments in the Prudnik district. The 39-year-old had been wanted by the District Prosecutor's Office in Kielce for a long time. He was hiding outside the country. However, he decided to come to his family for Christmas, and then the Prudnik policemen knocked on the door.

“He was arrested and taken to police custody, and in the prosecutor's office he was charged with stalking. The man is suspected of persistently harassing his former partner for almost two years. During this time, he sent her almost 40,000 messages containing, among others, vulgarisms, insults, threats and their naked photos,” the Opole police said in a statement.

A resident of the Prudnik district may face up to eight years in prison.

Stalking is persistent harassment or persecution of the victim by approaching, calling at different times, making the so-called silent calls, sending letters or e-mails, intimidation. Stalkers often hang out near the victim's home or workplace, try to establish contact through third parties, break into the victims' houses or cars, or buy them unwanted gifts.

All such activities to be considered a crime, they must take place persistently, against the will and despite the strong opposition of the addressee. The conditions for fulfilling the criteria for the crime of stalking are that: Through harassment, the perpetrator arouses in the injured party a sense of threat that is justified by the circumstances.

According to the Penal Code, stalking is a punishable offense imprisonment of up to eight years, and in some cases even up to 15 years.
