The German national team seems to be slowly getting back on track. After the disastrous 2022 World Cup, when our western neighbors did not even make it out of the group, many changes were made. Julian Nagelsmann has been leading the team since September last year. He reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 and also performed well in the Nations League. The team achieved four wins and two draws. One of them was scored on Tuesday evening – the Germans conceded the decisive goal only at the end. Nagelsmann's players could not be completely satisfied with the result. In fact, one of the players got quite irritated, but for a completely different reason.
Jamal Musiala shouted at Florian Wirtz. It was about a yellow card. The Bayer Leverkusen player significantly weakened the German national team
The Germans waited quite a long time for a goal against Hungary. It was only in the 76th minute that Felix Nmecha found the net. The problem is that Dominik Szoboszlai equalized in the ninth minute of added time. The Hungarian converted the penalty into a goal. Thus, the teams shared the points.
Our western neighbors had quite serious faces when they went to the locker room. Jamal Musiala couldn't hide his emotions either. However, it seems that more than the result of the match, he was angry at the rather reckless behavior of… Florian Wirtz. The second mentioned player entered the field only in the 61st minute, replacing Serge Gnabry, but less than a quarter of an hour later he received a yellow card. It was a penalty for a tactical foul.
This means that Wirtz will not be available in the quarterfinals, to which the German team advanced. He has to be suspended for too many yellow cards. This may prove to be a significant weakening for the team, which Musiala is aware of. And already on the pitch there was a tension between him and his friend. He expressed his anger by shouting at Wirtz: “You idiot!”, which he admitted to in an interview with Bild. -I already shouted at him! – he informed. In everyday life, the players are good friends, so it seems that this slight tension will not affect their relationship.
Nagelsmann also had some bitter words about Wirtz. – I'm a bit irritated by Florian's yellow card. But there's nothing we can do about it. We need to introduce another good player to the field, he emphasized.
Germany ultimately took first place in Group 3 of Division A of the Nations League. They thus advanced to the knockout phase. They scored 14 points in six games – the result of four wins and two draws. They are undefeated for six matches. During this time, they scored 18 goals and conceded only four goals.
