On a wind farm near Sulechówko (West Pomeranian Voivodeship), three blades of a 100-meter windmill burned down. Previously, firefighters secured the fire site for almost seven hours, because that was all their actions could be limited to. – Initial inspections showed that there may have been a lightning discharge – said the spokesman for the State Fire Service in Sławno, junior captain. Mariusz Sieciński.
On Saturday, around 12 p.m., firefighters received a report of a windmill wing catching fire near the town of Sulechówko (West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Malechowo commune) on the road to Witosław.
Spokesperson for the State Fire Service in Sławno, junior captain Mariusz Sieciński told us after 2 p.m. that a car with a ladder several dozen meters high had been sent to the site, but ultimately the car did not go to the operation because the windmill is about 100 meters high and the ladder would not be useful there. As he said, firefighters went to the site. The service company was also called there.
Spokesman of the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service, Asst. Dariusz Schacht explained that “the guard's actions are limited only to securing the scene of the incident.”
“Three shovels burned”
Firefighters secured the fire site for almost seven hours. In the evening, young captain Sieciński said that the firefighters' actions had ended. – After 7 p.m., technicians and a representative of the company that owns the wind farm stayed there – he explained.
He reported that “three shovels burned, but the gondola remained.” – Foam was applied to the parts that fell to extinguish them, he said.
– The causes of the fire are not known yet, but preliminary examination showed that there may have been lightning – added the spokesman.
The windmill that caught fire is part of the Potęgowo farm, Sulechówko subproject. A few years ago, 29 turbines were built near this village, with a supporting column height of 98.3 meters, a propeller diameter of 120 meters and a power of 2.75 MW each. Nearby there are another 7 windmills of the Potęgowo WF, Bartolino subproject.
As explained by the press officer of the State Fire Service in Sławno, the windmills are located in a field, far from buildings, so the fire in the blades of one of the rotors and falling construction elements did not pose a threat to residents.
