The students were returning from a trip to Krakow when suddenly their bus started to veer into the opposite lane of the road. The driver lost consciousness. The teachers reacted quickly – one took over the wheel and two pulled the unconscious man away. The vehicle was stopped.
Students from primary school No. 15 in Tarnowskie Góry were returning from Krakow on Monday. There were 32 children and three teachers on the bus: Danuta Wowro, Bożena Kalinowska and Anna Biedal-Tarska. At some point, the bus driver lost consciousness.
“One of the caregivers noticed that the bus was starting to move into the opposite lane. She immediately grabbed the steering wheel, and two other teachers helped pull the unconscious driver away and stop the vehicle. Thanks to their quick reaction, no one was injured,” we read on the website of the Tarnowskie Góry city hall.

The students rose to the challenge
The teachers quoted in the entry emphasize that thanks are also due to the students who behaved in an exemplary manner. – They responded to every word and command and maintained full discipline. We were in the middle of a very busy road. Our bus was standing in the middle of the road, with trucks and cars rushing on both sides. On our part it was a few seconds, but then there were two hours of concern to prevent another tragedy from happening. This required cooperation between teachers and students, said Bożena Kalinowska
The bus driver was examined by rescuers and did not require assistance.

“A real life lesson”
Mayor of Tarnowskie Góry Arkadiusz Czech and deputy mayor Jolanta Tuszyńska presented the teachers with special thanks and cash prizes.
– The maturity of teachers as people, but also their maturity as educators of young people, is a great example for the young generation of how to behave in difficult situations – said Mayor Arkadiusz Czech. – It was a real life lesson.
– More trips coming soon. The first thing I will do is ask which button opens the door and where to turn on the emergency lights on the coach, says Danuta Wowro.
